Simple, Reliable, Low Cost Gravity Filter Control System for Retrofit and New Installations

Filter Magic® is a universal, simple, reliable and low-cost Gravity Filter Control System perfect for retrofit solutions or new construction that can reduce the cost of installation by as much as 60%.

Filter Magic® is designed to make all Gravity Filter Control Systems a simple, reliable, low-cost solution instead of a unique integrated and complicated control system. Our systems include state-of-the-art dual filter control consoles, simple straight-forward easy to install Actuator Sensor – Interface (AS-I) bus network technology and high quality long-life pneumatic vane actuators. Electric and hydraulic actuation solutions are also available. Filter Magic® Solutions are completely scalable from a micro 2-filter water or wastewater treatment plant to a major facility with 40 or more filters.

Filter Magic® is a simple, reliable, low-cost, non-proprietary and open-architecture Gravity Filter Control System.

Filter Magic® is a universal filter control system with easily installed modular options that allow it to meet the specific criteria necessary for any water or wastewater gravity filter system application. It is particularly effective when it is used for retrofit solutions that are many times required in older plants.

Filter Magic® dual filter control consoles are much smaller than older traditional consoles and can easily fit within their existing footprints. AS-I bus networks eliminate a substantial amount of the traditional power, control and monitoring conduit and wiring normally found in a filter pipe gallery, especially if pneumatic actuators are used. And pneumatic vane actuators are much smaller than older hydraulic or electric actuators allowing them to be easily installed in the existing space available.

Filter Magic® is a very simple non-proprietary open-architecture control system that eliminates or minimizes complexity normally found in traditional or older filter control systems. Our touch-screen Operator Interface Terminal eliminates all physical control switches, push buttons, pilot lights, instrumentation and console wiring normally associated with a filter control console. It also allows the overall size of the console to be substantially smaller. Utilizing the simple 2-wire AS-I bus network to communicate to all of the actuators and sensors in the filter pipe gallery greatly reduces the amount of traditional PLC I/O and field terminations normally required in a filter control system. Most importantly, it eliminates high voltage power systems in the filter pipe gallery. Using pneumatic vane actuators that have one moving part in lieu of hydraulic cylinders or electric actuators greatly simplifies the long-term maintenance reliability of the filter control system as well.

Eliminating and minimizing all of the traditional complexity in older filter control system designs provides a much more reliable filter control system both upstairs in the Filter Gallery as well as downstairs in the Filter Pipe Gallery.

Filter Magic® consoles are normally provided as dual filter control consoles which are cost-effective yet provide ample redundancy in the overall filter control system. Optional single, quad or larger console configurations can also be provided upon request.

Filter Magic® consoles are provided in NEMA 12 Filter Magic® Blue, NEMA 4X Stainless Steel or corrosive resistant Polycarbonate or Fiberglass enclosures.

Filter Magic® OIT graphic screens are easy to use to monitor, tune and control each individual filter, either automatically or manually, as well as related air scour, surface wash or backwash pump sub-systems. Every Filter Magic® Solution includes a fully automatic prioritized backwash queue that allows operations to run the entire filter system automatically without requiring human input to initiate a backwash.

Filter Magic® utilizes leading automation technology including:

  • 15″ Rockwell Touchscreen Operator Interface Terminals (OIT)
  • Schneider Electric / Modicon M340 PLCs
  • Rockwell Automation / Allen Bradley CompactLogix PLCs
  • Emerson / Bristol ControlWave PLCs
  • Ethernet connectivity between filter consoles and plant SCADA system
  • Low Voltage (24VDC) 2-Wire Actuator Sensor – Interface (AS-I) Bus Network Technology
  • High performance, proven and reliable instrumentation
  • High performance AWWA valves with pneumatic, electric or hydraulic actuators.

Filter Magic® Solutions provide comprehensive filter system data and remote control capability over an Ethernet highway to existing or new plant SCADA systems.

Filter Magic® can reduce the initial cost of installation by as much as 60% as well as substantial long-term maintenance savings over time.

Filter Magic® Solutions include a comprehensive three (3) year warranty on the entire filter control system including the Filter Magic® Control System, instrumentation, valves and actuators.

Four and five year Filter Magic® warranty options are available upon request.

Filter Magic® Solutions were designed to simplify traditional filter control systems by eliminating unnecessary complexity in the Filter Gallery and the Filter Pipe Gallery.

Filter Magic® Consoles utilize state-of-the-art technology to completely eliminate all of the traditional pilot lights, pushbuttons, selector switches, controllers and indicators by consolidating them into one large easy to read and operate touchscreen operator interface panel. Small reliable PLCs and a 2-wire 24VDC AS-I bus network technology located inside the filter console completely eliminate traditional PLC input / output cards normally associated with a filter control system thereby substantially reducing the size and complexity of the dual filter console.

Installation of a Filter Magic® Console is simple due to its size and small footprint. It does not require a large opening under it usually needed for traditional conduit systems and in fact usually requires an adaptor plate under it to cover the large openings normally found on older systems. Once installed, it only requires three ¾” conduits installed under it for 120 VAC power, Ethernet connectivity to other filter consoles and plant SCADA and the 2-wire 24 VDC AS-I bus network cable to the filter pipe gallery. The small simple console is one of the major upfront cost savings benefits of a Filter Magic® Solution.

The very simple easy to maintain Filter Magic® 2-wire 24 VDC AS-I bus network cable is responsible to connect all of the filter control system devices for two filters in the filter pipe gallery to the Filter Magic® Console and completely eliminates the traditional conduit and wiring tree normally associated with a traditional filter control system. The devices include all of the control actuators and instrumentation required for two filters. This is one of the major upfront cost savings benefits of a Filter Magic® Solution.

The Filter Magic® 2-wire 24 VDC AS-I bus network cable also provides electrical power to pneumatic vane actuators, if used, in the filter control system located in the filter pipe gallery. This very important Filter Magic® cost savings benefit is enormous as it completely eliminates the need for a 230 / 460 VAC three-phase power distribution system in the filter pipe gallery.

Filter Magic® Pneumatic Actuation Solutions provide maximum short-term installation benefits as well as long-term maintenance savings benefits.

Filter Magic® Electric and Hydraulic Actuation Solutions are also available.
